Required Reading: Managing Debt For Dummies
I’ve never been a fan of the “Dummies” series of books, more because of the name than any failure in their content. But the more I think about it, we’re all just a little dumb for letting our debt get out of hand and filling the coffers of the credit card companies.
So for the latest installment of Required Reading I’ve chosen (drumroll please) Managing Debt For Dummies.
And to be honest, I wasn’t disappointed. The book addresses coping with different types of debt, including unsecured personal loans, car loans, home loans, credit cards and student loans.
It’s pretty comprehensive, and generally on target. Here’s some intel on the highlights.
As described by Amazon, this book will help with things like:
- Distinguishing between good and bad debt
- Going on a “debt diet” to get back into financial shape
- Starting a filing system to track debt and protect life after debt
- Adopting a smart spending regimen
- Increasing your income (what I find to be the missing element from most debt plans)
- Consolidating your debt
- Deciding which bills to pay when you can’t pay them all
- Using credit cards responsibly
When all’s said and done, it’s important to remember that you can still live well while slashing spending on groceries, clothing, and entertainment. This point isn’t lost on the author, which I appreciate.
So if you’re looking for a good guide to help jump start your getting out of debt action plan, this is a very, very good choice.
So grab a copy and let us know what you think.
