Protesters Invade Chase Bank HQ

In the spirit of Ann Minch an estimated 1,000 people took the debt revolt up a notch today by briefly occupying the lobby of an office building in Manhattan, which just happens to be the headquarters of JPMorgan Chase.

The protest Monday was organized by the non-profit Neighborhood Assistance Corporation of America, which helps homeowners restructure their mortgages.
Protesters carried signs targeting JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon, who is in Washington to meet with President Barack Obama. The group was escorted out of the Chase lobby and marched past the New York Stock Exchange.
Some carried signs saying “I’ll Be Homeless for X-mas” and “JP Morgan is CHASE-ing us out of our homes!”

The protest was organized by Neighborhood Assistance Corporation of America, a nonprofit advocacy group which helps homeowners restructure their mortgages. ‘The organization has inked deals with JPMorgan Chase, Bank of America , Citi and Wells Fargo to have them work with borrowers to lower mortgage payments and enroll them in long-term fixed-rate mortgages. But NACA contends that Chase hasn’t honored the agreement, and hence the drama today.

NACA is no stranger to protests, using it as a tool to influence banks to bend to their will.

Today’s protesters carried signs targeting JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon.  Some wittier ones were “I’ll Be Homeless for X-mas” and “JP Morgan is CHASE-ing us out of our homes!” They were apparently unaware that Dimon was already scheduled to be in Washington to meet with President Obama.

Reports stated that about 700 protesters made it into the building’s lobby, while as many as 400 more waited outside.  After a short tussle with bank staff who tried to lock the doors, New York Police Department officers arrived and had the protesters leave.
