Your Email Hints at Your Credit Score
Want to boost your credit score? Ditch Yahoo! Mail and sign up for Comcast cable. Actually, don’t do that. But it does appear that Comcast’s users trounce Yahoo!’s in the credit arena, while MSN beats AOL and Gmail pwns them both.
How do I know? The staff at Credit Karma have taken information from over 20,000 people and put together the awesome chart you see below:
Now don’t go running to switch your email account. Email addresses don’t affect people’s credit scores (unless their Internet provider makes their online bills late!) but people in certain demographics (age, income, etc.) with higher or lower scores probably frequent similar services for their mail accounts. In any case, it’s striking how far apart the numbers are.
We’ve mentioned this site before, in a recent post about new sites offering free credit scores. They offer a free credit score with no hidden costs or obligations and based on your score, you are pitched offers from various companies. This is in contrast to other sites that require you to sign up for a monthly monitoring service or pay for your score outright.
At Credit Karma you can also see credit scores broken down by age and by state. Since they have the ability to collect so much data, it’ll be interesting to see what other stats they cook up.
Props to Mashable.
